How to clean throttle body

Recommended Posts

Ok I may have my high idle down to a vacuum leak, coolant sensor, Idle air control or throttle body cleaning. Can anyone explain cleaning or adjusting the idle air control and throttle body??

Although the IAC is adjustable, it is factory preset and should not need any further adjustment. The ECM looks at the voltage (pulsewidth) it sends to the IAC, then matches it with a pulsewidth that it sends to the fuel injectors. That is how idle speed is controlled and tweaking the IAC puts that ratio out of whack.

What year is your boat?

You can find a vacuum leak by lightly spraying carb. cleaner around all the vacuum lines and intake manifold area with the engine running and listen for a rise in idle speed. You can clean the throttle body and butterfly by spraying some carb. cleaner on a rag and wiping the areas with your finger.
