Engine Hours

Recommended Posts

OK, question for you guys (and gals). I found out the other day that the way my Sunsetter is wired if you forget to shut the key down after listening to the radio in the garage while cleaning you put about 30 hours on the boat before the battery dies. Now thinking back I can pretty much guarantee i have done that a few times. Is there any way to use the computer to get a true hour reading and reset the mechanical hour meter?

the dealer can read the engine hours from the computer. not sure about the reset though. i think on my '00 response, it was stored in the tach gauge and couldn't be reset, bicbw. i don't have that guage anymore, have the pp analog tach combo.

the ecm will show run hours not key on hours, need a reader or have it done at a shop. When buying a boat this is why most guys are concerned with ecm hours. ie my boat dash hour meter was 1200 hrs the ecm hours where 320 when I bought it. also most boats including mine will run most accesories without the key needed to be on so there is no reason to turn the key on when listening to music.

Only 30hrs before battery dies ? Either you have a preference for loud music, or you have a battery that's on it's way out in the next year.

Turn the key counter clockwise and it should'nt add time to the hourmeter. At least both the boats I have don't. (2005 Vride 1995 Echelon)
