New Carpet Stench???

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a new bu this year where when the carpet gets wet (and I don't even mean soaked necessarily) that the carpet puts off an incredible foul oder? Two boats in our area are like that that are new this year. It is not from water in ski locker either as that is emptied. It appears to come from maybe a chemical malibu puts on the carpet? It is awful...anyone else having this problem? We have opened everything up to dry it out and that helps but once the carpet gets wet, the smell is back!! My friend standing on the dock could smell it -- not even in the boat!

wow, to smell it from the dock. that is no good!

is it bad enough to make you Vomit.gif ? or just annoying?

It is pretty bad. At first people were smelling their lifevests/ suits/thinking they needed to be washed....it was kind of like a smell you would catch now and then. Very strong but not constant. Now it is constant and strong. Like I said removing all the seats and airing it out in 90 degree weather did cure it.

something we do is rent a carpet shampoo machine and give it a real good cleaning with cleaner, then once again without to make sure we get all the cleaner out. let it sit in the sun for a day to dry and it is good to go.

Not sure if it's the same problem but there are some household rugs that have a slight burnt smell. It is the uncured glue in the rug. I've read where the best solution is to leave the rug outside on a driveway or the like and let the strong sunlight cure the glue for several days.
