motor running rich... 335 monsoon

my engine is running rich....(smell fuel behind the boat)..

it boggs down when taking off...

perhaps old gas???

i put a bottle of lucas injecter cleaner

but runs pretty good at full power,,,

idles ok...

another observation...

my intake manifold sounds louder than normal ( the big black dome) ...i can put my hand on the top of it and push...seams to quiet it down...

((i could be reaching))

question....is the metal intake cover hard to remove?.......

anybody have a this kind of problem ??

Your manifold could be loose or the gasket is bad. This could be why you are running rich also.

im thinking that MIGHT be it.......it looks like the throttle body is bolted to the metal intake and that is bolted to the engine intake....

my clyde manual does not illustrate this.....anybody have any ideas about removal?????

well im ruleing out intake mantifold. (sprayed it down while running (b12 chemtool)) no rpm change....

changed fuel filter....going to try a new tank of gas.. with lucas fuel injector cleaner....

update.....no help/.....

but it seams the problem occurs when the egine is hot....when i first get out ,,,motor cool....runs awesome....then after driving hard...the power fades and you can smell gas...(running rich)....

im now leaning to temp sensors.,...

any other thoughts??

along the same lines, I took my boat to higher elevation where the air was slightly thinner. I'm talking sea level to 3,500 feet so not too terribly high. I had the same symptoms, also a little run on from time to time after shutting off the key switch and and sometimes trouble starting, followed by a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust (very skier unfriendly by the way). Anyway, I had to adjust the mixture on the carb for the higher elevation. Once I did that, all was good again.
