TEMP GUAGE NOT WORKING

Recommended Posts

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A 1995 MALIBU ECHELON WITH THE 350 MAGNUM. I NOTICED THAT THE TEMP GUAGE NEVER MOVED FROM 120. i CHECKED FOR A LOOSE WIRE AT THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND IT SEEMED FINE. DOES THE MALIBU HAVE A OVERHEATING BUZZER SYSTEM UNTIL I CAN FIND THE GUAGE PROBLEM?

If you have EFI. I don't know what they do if the engine is carbed. Rowdy, first check for continuity through the sender. The sender you want should only have one wire connected to it, and it should be light green.

My '97 Response has 2 sending units. One is for the over-temp alarm and will read open with an ohm meter at normal operating temp. The other one (on my boat it's the starboard side) is the sending unit that goes to the temp gauge. Your sending unit might be bad. Does the gauge move at all? When you turn the boat off does the temp go way down? If you have movement in the gauge I would not suspect a bad ground although that is always the first thing I check. My bet is the sending unit.
