Titan Tower Question / Rope Problem

Just got 2 new beautiful board racks on my Sunsetter with the Titan I tower. I put them about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the rack on the rear vertical poles, and the rope keeps getting caught on the racks when I turn around to pick up the skier. From all the pictures I could find, it looks like everybody with a Titan keeps the boards almost all the way at the top of the tower. Should I move the racks up or down, I'm kind of bummed that I ripped my $80 rope on the rack. Didn't have this problem before because I only had a rack on the left side, and I always turn right when I'm taking someone the rope.

Also, it ripped the outer jacket of my LF Black Widow rope that's been used like 5 times, but the inside strands look good. I know on 550 (parachute) cord the inner strands carry most of the load, but can I keep using this rope, should I tie a knot in it, or what? Thanks for the help,

Don't tie a knot in the rope; it will fail faster. Can't answer about the titan tower and rack position, but we hang up quite a bit with the Illusion tower too, racks on the lower mount. The observer is responsible for clearing it, and the boarder should recognize the problem too and holler for assistance.

Here's a couple suggestions,

Don't turn quite as sharp, and raise the board racks up higher, that way the rope will stay behind the rack and boards when making a turn.

Hope this helps.

Don't mean to make the wrong assumption but don't power turn to pick up your skier (and if you could, please tell EVERYONE on my lake to quite power turning too Frustrated.gifRanting.gif ). If you throttle down spin the wheel and ideal back you will get there faster, not mess up the lake and keep your tower clear. If you are already doing that just adjust your turn to keep tension on the line so that it goes over the racks.

this is where mine are mounted.

I have 2 on the side where the picture was taken and only 1 on the other. Typically the lower rack on the picture side isn't on unless we have a ton of boarders in the boat and need the extra rack space. I haven't had it get caught on any of them yet. Maybe you turn funny

I have two titan racks on my series 2 tower. They are mounted 3/4 the way up the rear leg. we occasionally get the rope caught, but never when I'm driving :)

I agree with Hack. When someone falls I throttle down, let the wakes pass and idle back to the boarder. It gives them a rest, keeps my gas usage down a bit and saves some good water for the rest of the boarders/skiers out there.

Thanks guys, yah, I'm anal about people ruining the water with power turning also, my problem occurs when I'm idling back around the rider giving advice or just turning back around, especially if the wedge is down I use full rudder deflection in the turn, and I wish my passengers/riders had the situational awareness to help me out, but look where that got me. I'll just try raising the racks and making a wider circle, anybody have an alternative to a new rope?

Sorry to hear about your thrashed rope! Definitely move your racks up on the rear hoop, in our documentation we recommend mounting them almost all of the way up at the bend. The higher they are the less likely the rope will get caught when turning.

As for your rope, as long as the outer braid hasn't exposed a really long section of the spectra core you should be able to fix it. Find a piece of heat shrink tubing that will just barely fit over the knots in the rope and is at least 18" long (the longer the better). Slide it on and heat it up and you should be set.

Also, since this happened at the boat end of the line, as long as you weren't on the shortest loop the damage should have occurred in one of the extensions. If that's the case, you can order extra extensions and just pull that one off.

Same thing happens to me if I turn too sharply or cut too hard. Something that I got to help me was getting the tube-like pads that prevent the rope from snapping back from skiers.

Another thing I found today, I have a Titan bimini, and right now I can't get one side to extend. One side extends fine, and the other won't budge. Everything's loosened, tried WD-40, nothing appears to be bent. Anybody ever had this happen and have any advice?

Thanks skicrave, the racks all the way up did the trick, and the heat shrink tubing worked beautifully to fix the rope, so people keep that in your bag of tricks for sure. Still no luck with the bimini, positive side is we all rode 3 sets because it was so hot and also got really tan.

I often have to push on the curve at the bottom of my Titan bimini towards the outside of the boat to get it to extend. It rotates the tube & lets it line up better so it doesn't bind.

Good luck.

Rotating one of the legs slightly can help to free it up, but most likely the pole was bent accidentally, and that's what is causing it to bind up now.

Reply the message I sent and we'll get it resolved.
