Best prop for a 96 Response 320 Monsoon

SD SKIER

Recommended Posts

Would like to know what the best prop to use on a 96 Response with a 320 monsoon engine. Mainly course ski, is a oj or acme prop better. What size and pitch. Also 3 or 4 blade which is better.

Your 96 Response is on a very similar hull as my Sporty. I got a 13 X 12 OJ XMP Edge CNC'd 3 Blade from Skier-To-Skier. $400 delivered to my door with a prop puller kit and a case to keep my old prop in (as a spare). Max at skier-to-skier is awesome to work with. I bought this particular prop strictly for it's slalom characteristics. Couldn't be happier...well, except that I'm selling my boat now.

I'd recommend a 13x11.5 prop, I put that on my SLXI which is only about 100Lbs. heavier and much better hole shot and cleaned up the wake.

 According to Malibu's spec it's a 450 pound weight difference and that's just the base boat weight difference. If he doesn't have all of the wakeboarder gear on his boat that you have on the SSLXi (tower, racks, speakers,...) then the weight difference is even greater.

The 11.5 will yield higher RPM's which translates into higher fuel consumption and a slightly lower top end speed (might be important if you barefoot).

With the 12 on my Sporty, it has more holeshot than you can hold on to...why would you need more?

Both Acme and OJ will give you excellent recommendations on the particular prop in their lineup you would want to use. Both offer excellent props for the Malibu application. My experience is behind that boat with an Acme 515, it works well.
