Easy compartment liner to keep carpet drier

My wife gets credit for this idea. We put a plastic bin (about 6" deep, 30x18 or so) in the rear compartment on our 2008 VLX so that when we throw the wet wetsuits, vests, and other gear in there, instead of the carpet getting all wet, the water drains into the bin. When we get home, we empty out the compartment, then lift out the bin and dump the quart of water or so that usually would have soaked the carpet. Since we then cover and store the boat, it is nice to put it away dry (or only slightly wet) instead of having to set up a fan or leave the boat open to let it dry.

A cheap and easy solution. The ideal solution would be a custom plastic bin that fills the compartment a little better.

Cut out the bottom part of the carpet glue in custom sized piece of EVA. Just wet/vac or towel mop out the water.

We do the same thing for skiing w/ a DD and just put the box behind the driver's seat. Works like champ.

We have one of those shelves that sits above the engine now. We throw jackets / ropes / gloves on it when done. It's cool, because they are somewhat dry by the time we get home. Our routine is head straight out, hit the course, board, whatever first thing. Put the gear away and spend the rest of the time drinking, swimming, relaxing.
