engine overheats

Recommended Posts

I have replaced the impeller and thermostat. I have water flow to the impeller. If I disconnect the hose past the impeller at the screen by the transmission cooler and start the engine I have no water flow. Do all hoses need to be connected to draw water past the impeller? Does the engine circulating pump draw water past the impeller????

Pete, you're right, I'm way tired.

Okay, but still it reads funny.... Either the pickup is blocked or the impeller isn't replaced.

wsdud, how do you know you have water flow to the impeller if you get none at the tranny cooler screen?

Do you have a valve on the floor of the boat where the main water line enters? Is it OPEN?

There's not too much between the water and the transmission cooler...

Thru-hull

Shut-off valve (maybe)

Hose

Impeller Housing

Hose

Things to check.

Blockage - could be inside of hose separated from outside wall.

Shut-off valve blocked

Hoses hooked up to correct ports - thru-hull to starboard/drivers side, output on port/passenger side

Impeller spun/loose on shaft

Air leak big enough to break the vacuum the impeller will draw

I'm sure there are some others, but that should cover most issues.
