2003 Sunsetter monsoon fuel problems

I have an 03 Sunsetter lxi with Monsoon 335. It was really hard to start the first time out, but was running fine for a few times out. It now is real sluggish and hesitates and can't get it over 24 mph. I replaced the in line fuel filter tonight and no luck.

Should I change the fuel pressure regulator and/or the high pressure fuel pump? I can hear it whining a little.

The whining is likely the fuel pump not getting enough fuel to properly lubricate the pump. Since you changed the fuel filter already, you could also look in the inlet to the bottom of the fuel pump. There is a fine screen there that will sometimes catch particle and partially block the fuel line pump too.

You may want to put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail to make sure you're looking at the right thing.

The fuel pump is a pricy part to just swap out for diagnosis.

You'll need a mirror and flashlight to see it, but it is easily visible.

Whining generally means that the pump is on its way out. We had this very problem with baumer's boat over the weekend - new pump, runs like a top. It's a very common problem with Bu's up to 2004 model year as I recall.
