Does anyone have any idea where i could find a factory front wrap around passenger seat for a 1989 malibu skier? Are there any companys that still make these seats or something similar that will fit? The previous owner took it out for some odd reason and it's MIA. All your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

i would bet that the seat is constructed of flat panels, padding and vinyl.

i'd head to a good vinyl upholstery shop and ask them to gin up a price.

might even be fun to build the base yourself and have the shop pad and stretch vinyl for you.

Did you buy the boat? Did you get my pm?

PT ballisters and 3/8" plywood. Coat the plywood with resin before you assemble. Bring to upolstry shop and have them install the vinyl and padding.

Yes he's holding the boat for me until the money can exchange hands so i'm trying to gear up for the overhaul in advance. I got your PM after I posted this thread. I'm sure i could build one myself but i just wish i had a factory seat ( or atleast some detailed pictures of one) to go by so it would fit tight and the height be correct.. I wonder if any other seats, perhaps a similar one from an older nautique would work...?? I tryed googling my year model but i can't seem to find any close-up pics detailed enough to build one by.

You can build one yourself. I rebuilt a Malibu Sunsetter and recreated every seat in the boat using plywood coated heavily (both sides) in fiberglass resin. You can then have an upholstery shop get you the foam and vinyl cover. The best part is you can then give it any look you want.

Another option is to work with Chee at Malibu for the foam/vinyl component. I called him and sent him pics/sketches of what I wanted. I ended up with an older Sunsetter that looks brand new on the inside. Just got back from the lake this weekend and nobody could believe my boat was an 87. Let me know if you want some pics of the process. It's really not hard if you are willing to spend a solid weekend with a skill saw and some fiberglass resin. Chee was a great help.

I might still have the original foam for the front side seat if you want it. Mines different in the center though since it's open bow.

Yes i would love to see some pictures of the process! Building it should not be a problem as i enjoy that type of work and have years of cabinet expierience. I just need some direction as far as the design goes. I'd love to see some pictures. I also thought about reconstructing the back seat too. Thanks for your help!

Here you go. Click on the "seats" album from the link below and you'll get an idea of how the original seats are/were underneath the foam. At least with my 87 sunsetter (not sure about the Skier), the front seat has a base and a top with cutouts and a hinge that folds down to access the storage. Mine also doesn't wrap around as far as yours because its open bow, but it's probably the same to the center.

I might have a few more specific pics I could email you if you want. Building was fairly quick, you can use plywood, osb, marine wood -- whatever you choose. I tried to spend the extra time putting a layer of fiberglass over it, or at least resin in some cases. I also used new, thicker foam (3") but the originals were 2" thick. I used Chee at Malibu (very helpful) to create the vinyl instead of a local shop.

Let me know if that helps, or if you want more specifics. I'd be willing to take some basic measurements if you want. The boats are similar.
