Changed oil sender and switch but possible bigger problems!

Hello...

After having the oil alarm go off, I replaced the oil sender and oil pressure switch on my 2002 sunsetter.

I had very old oil in it before changing it last month.

When I changed the oil , I did have to blow into the oil drain hose to unclog it in the oil pan....

My oil gauge shows zero.... but the gauge has always been intermittent.

The main thing I noticed was when I removed the oil fill cap ( the caps where one would fill oil in)

I started the engine and did not see any oil flowing or on the rocker arms , springs and valves.

There is a little residue oil there but seems a little to me...

could my oil pump be logged or broken?

Hey,

My suggestion would be to again drain the newer oil you have in is to see if it come out dirty leading to a pluged secerren on the pick up to the pump. If is is plugged you would not get oil flow to the pump. If that does help you will problably have a bad pump or the pick is pluged to the point that you may have to pull the oil pan to clean it. Just my two cents form expericne working on engines at work.

There usually isn't a lot of oil flowing around the valvetrain, so that may not be all that alarming. I believe oil actually gets up there through the center of the pushrods which are hollow. But if you replaced the sensors and still have zero oil pressure, I'd track it down before running the engine. It may make a little mess, but take that oil switch out and just crank over the motor (remove coil wire from distributor cap). You should know in a hurry if the pump is picking up oil. It should come out of the hole where the sensor was. If you turn the motor over and don't get oil out that hole, you have a blockage or bad pump and it's time to pull the motor.

if you know for a fact that your pressure guage doesn't work, i'd install a pressure guage directly on the engine (put it where the oil sender swithc is), just to make sure...

Does this shed some light....

I turned the engine on...and when I messed with the old oil pressure switch, I loosened the little nuts where the wire connects to the switch, and oil started seeping out.

does this mean the oil is being pumped?
