Oil Pump

I started a topic the other day on my oil pressure alarm, guage, and display going off and got some good ideas on what to check to correct the problem. The new question is how do you tell if it is the oil pump? And, where is the oil pump on an 03 Response Lxi 335 hp?

Your getting into internals now and it would be much easier to raise the engine or pull it out to replace it, oil pumps don't usually go out so you may want to do some more work on finding out what else may be the problem. Now you may have a pick up that fell off from the oil pump, but that again is very rare!

Edit: Adding to your first question, you would have to pull the distributor and make a drive that fit's into the oil pump bushing, you then could use a drill to turn it and see if you have oil pressure at one of the oil gallery ports. Your other problem may be bad rod bearings, then your into a whole other issue.
