Engine locked up today

Looking for a Chevy 350 5.7 260 hp. What a bummer!!

have you pulled it apart to see what happened? if your motor is able to be rebuilt then that is the route i would take. Instead of having a 260HP you could have 350+ HP

Heres the story:

My wife ran aground and shredded my 4 blade OJ prop. I wasnt in the nboat so I told her to run and if their is vibration then shut it down and idle in. Put the boat on the trailer. (No vibration when idling). Next outing boat started fine. When I put in reverse to come off the trailer it ran for approx 15 seconds and shut off. Kept trying to restart out of gear and something was locked up. When I was starting my batteries atrted to smoke. I fried two batteries trying to get it started. I pulled the starter and tried to turn the main pully and it is locked up. I replaced the batteries today and have a mechanic coming to the house with winch truck to pull the engine. Once the engine is pulled I should know what I am dealing with. I was told the transmission is hydraulic? Anyone know about this? Give me some opinions guys on what I need to look for when I get the motor out tonight.....

Way oput of my price range. I'll probably go with a rebuilt from www.rebuiltmarineengines.com.... Found one to match for $1919.00 free shipping (no core charge) and 1 year gaurantee..

Don't know if there's any connection with the running aground or just coincidence. Was this the first time reverse gear was used since hitting the prop? I'd probably make sure it is the motor before pulling it. Never heard of a hydraulic transmission, but doesn't mean there isn't one. It's a gear box, so it has gears. Maybe something in there got whacked up and keeping the motor from turning over. I don't know that I'd use the "can't move the pully by hand" as my only diagnosis for yanking a motor. Since it's likely either the motor or trans has to come out, but maybe not both, I'd separate the two but leave them in the boat. Then see which on moves and which doesn't. It will be easier to turn the motor over with the plugs out.

Pull the plugs out and check for water to see if the engine is hydrolocked. It can happen if the boat is run too hard in reverse.
