Steering Upgrade

I have a 96 Sunsetter VLX. It steers really hard especially with the wedge at wakeboarding speed only when turning. But at slow speeds you can steer with you fingers. So I am pretty sure the cable is fine. Can I upgrade to Rack and pinion steering? Has anyone done this and will this make a significant difference?

Thanks,

Adam

It has a rotary steering unit? Dontknow.gif

Before replacing the entire steering system (which would be a little pricey Yes.gif ) try lubing the rudder port. If the rudder port is devoid of grease it will allow a small amount of play in the rudder which when under load will cause the rudder to tip slightly causing it to bind and become difficult to steer.

Yeah, my 96 SSLX has a rotary- wish I'd know there was an upgrade available when I changed out the cable last summer. I could have gotten the whole R&P assembly with a cable for a little more than I paid for just the cable... hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?
