Oil Pressure Goes to 80 at full throttle

Recommended Posts

On a Monsoon 335 EFI, is it normal for the oil pressure guage to read 80 (pegged) when running at full throttle. It seems to fluctuate depending on speed. Dealer says it is normal.

Thanks!!

When it was warm, if I went to full throttle....about 46 mph, the OP went to full 80, but would float down as I idled down???? Worry?

On a cold engine yes, but as it warms up it should not go that high.

From what I've read (and heard), oil pressure gauges on 'bus can vary all over the map. It could be that the gauge is accurate but it could also be a sender unit going bad, a gauge problem, bad/intermittent ground, and many more. I'm facing a similar issue with my 325 Monsoon where the gauge kind of wanders around. I'm going to investigate the usual suspects and, if that doesn't work, will hook up a unit to the motor to read the pressure directly. Right now I'd say it's most likely not a motor problem in our case, but your mileage may vary.
