Monsoon Misses at Low RPM

Recommended Posts

My friend on the lake has a 1997 Response LX with the Monsoon engine. At low RPM (around wake board speed and a bit slower) the engine misses. You can feel it cutting in and out on maybe one cylinder. No check engine light like you would probably get on a car. He said he changed the engine fuel filter and I suggested he change the filter above the fuel tank also but I don't think this is the problem. I told him that it could be a spark plug, wire, or dirty fuel injector.

How do you clean the fuel injectors and/or check which cylinder is misfiring without pulling off each plug wire while underway?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Wood

First check your (friends) distributor cap and rotor. If they don't look great replace them. Have you ever replaced the spark plug wires? If not they are going on their 11th season and high energy wires contain alot of silicone which deteriorates with age. Looking at and comparing the spark plugs can usually be an indicater of which cylinder is misfiring.
