I dont want to sound like a smarty here, but a simple search for "soot" brought up half a dozen threads that would be of interest to you. Did you try searching?

Just for some input....I would say that it is relatively normal. Mine has done it since I have had it...I notice it when we rub the boat down after a long weekend of running. Certainly nothing to worry about, IMHO. Mine has down pipes under the platform so maybe as we idle along it tends to hang around the area? :dunno:
