back floor panel replacement

Recommended Posts

Yet another question, can you tell, I am spending some time in the boat these days now that the temp is above 60 in Minnesota.

The honeycombed floor panel that is directly behind the motor- When this goes bad, do you order if from the dealer, or is there a different option?

Is that honeycombed like a grate?

Has anyone else had this problem, I am thinking of putting a support bracket in it, to avoid having the mess with the carpet.

You can order the aluminium honeycomb off McMaster....but you have to reuse or find carpeting to match.

I've seen it a couple of times...but pretty few and far between. Usually they just make the "broken glass" sound when they start to go and that's it.

We replaced our rear floor pannel at the start of this season == 04 VLX. Right at the bow edge it had become soft -- I thought the bracket that it sits on had become loose or one of the kids had jumped down into the boat -- our dealer (Skier's Pier -- great service - thanks Clint) had it replaced. We didn't try to salvage the carpet, but in hind site it would have been worth the effort. Carpet is very different -- sooooo, we go a floor mat. Don't want to change subjects but dimension control at malibu is a "challenge". We needed to move the table mount, and will have to cut and re-tape the carpet saver to fit (go figure).

Our boat is our "cottage" and is designed for use -- we're pleased with the repair and the revised carpet saver looks great. Good luck with your repair -- send me a note if you have questions.

Regards, Olive
