Bunk Spacing on Boat Life

Recommended Posts

I am a new Malibu and boat owner and just launched by 2006 VLX yesterday on 14 foot carpeted V-Bunks. I am trying to determine how wide to space my V-Bunks on my boat lift. I have read that I should check the width of the bunks on my trailor. I have a Prestige trailer and it has three sets of bunks on the trailer. The widest and longest bunks at the back of the trailer are 51 inches off center. The middle set are 27 inches and the small and close together bunks in the front of the trailer are 29 inches off center.

I was told by the marina to have them around 36 inches off center of the boat, but they are resting right on the stringers. My question is what is the correct spacing? Which bunk measurement do I use? Is wider better? Can it be to wide? Is there an exact spot that's optimum?

Thanks.

From my experience, and that is not that much, I would put them wide enough to allow for clearance of the prop should you go in a bit off center when pulling on the lift. Make sure that the runners are tall enough that your prop will clear the lift frame if the boat is to deep.

If you place them under the stringers, I would think that is the optimum position. The stringers are in essence the frame of your boat and the strongest part of the hull.

Personally, I would use more than on pair and place them just as they are on my trailer.
