Removing tow ball from tower?

Recommended Posts

I searched and could not find anything. Can anyone tell me if you can remove the tow ball off of an illusion tower. If so how is it done.

Thanks

gentle pry up the cover, about the size of a nickel, off the top of the ball , use a give away screw driver. under that cover is a nut with a allen head set screw. loosen set screw, remove nut, then ball will slide up and off. then you can remove the stud sticking up.

Alright, thanks I started to pry on the cover, but didn't want to break anything so I thought I would make sure.

You know, I saw this before. jgriffn's post count is not going up with his posts.

sorry about that hijack

I bought a wrench and shaved it down to fit the nut that is between the ball and tower. This works great, I've been doing this for years and have never damaged the ball or tower.

What is the purpose for removing it? Getting into a low clearance garage is all I can figure Dontknow.gif When you do remove it is there any kind of post that still sticks up above the crossmember of the tower?

I have to remove our ball Whistling.gif when putting the boat away in the garage, but the stud that holds the ball in place also has to come off. Some day, I'll come up with a swivel ball just for that purpose Whistling.gif "like I really have that much time on my hands", but it does suck to need that extra 2 inches just to get her in :)

This whole comment from me did not sound right Dontknow.gif
