Black vs White

Has anyone had both a light colored bimini and a dark colored bimini that can comment on whether or not there is an effect on the degree of shade thrown in the boat? As I understand it, sunbrella is opaque to visible and UV light so there shouldn't be any difference. However, I've been getting conflicting opinions. Can anyone settle this?

While we're at it... are the lighter colors harder to keep clean or do they show wear and tear sooner, etc?

I can't comment on the difference between the two, but my black one doesn't attract the heat like I thought it would. :)

Ditto that, it's nice & cool under the black one. I've also been under a few light gray biminis & they don't seem as shady, like they let more light through.

Mine is black and does not seem to heat up.

And I'm in the Texas sun and heat all day every weekend.

I think the light colored ones provide the same shade but it is a bit brighter under them.

I had a white bimini with my last boat. As you might guess, it was a real pain to keep clean and the aluminum framework rubbed off, too.

My second boat had a Creme colored bimini

Relunctantly I got a Black one on my current boat, but to my surprise no difference

The black is much easier to keep clean and I see no differance in temperature with the darker color.

Have had both a white and a black bimini on the same boat...no difference in shade or in heat from the top.

Keeping either clean was never an issue.

I vote for the black bimini. I heard that the sunbrella fabric on the darker colors lasts much longer than the lighter...

Ours is black. It doesn't hold the heat like I thought it would. Our white one on the old boat was a pain to keep clean. No problem with the black.

I don't have any experience with a light color bimini, but we love our black bimini. Really makes a difference on those 95 degree 100% humidity alabama summer days. I have a friend with a MC 205 with a dark grey bimini, don't really notice much difference.

Ditto. Our black one is hot to the touch, but casts a nice cool shadow.

Bryan-

One thing I wish about my bimini is that it was 3 inches higher.

Would make it easier to see when surfing.

And it would fit in my tower speaker cover.

Lower is more "sporty" looking though

There's a 38 or 40' Fountain on our lake with a couple of blown 502 cu in motors. He has a Bimini about the size of ours on it. Looks pretty silly with such a sleek boat and that little Bimini sticking up in the middle of it. I guess it probably helps while he is anchored in the party cove though.

Brad,

Yeah, I saw you at WOW kind of crouched over painfully as you pilot'd for the surfers. I said to myself, that aint gonna happen to me. :)

I heard back from Malibu today and they confirmed that it is a Reuben accent so I ordered my Titan I with a couple of LoRider Racks with the tower coated Reuben. After I get the tower installed I'll drop the boat off at WSA and have them get their guy to install the bimini. I'm still waiting to here back from Tony on what it'll cost and what the estimated lead time will be. I'd hate to leave my NEW boat up there for 2 weeks. :)

this boat is getting pricey. I added Roadmaster Active Suspension today, replaced the brake pads, fuel filter, K&N cone filter (I hate cleaning them... easier to buy a new one) and got a good look at my tires while doing the suspension. :( New tires are going to be coming along pretty soon. On top of that is the tower, insurance, registration, bimini, new graphics, and some expenses trying to sell my old boat.

Does ANYONE know of ANYONE who would have an interest in a perfectly good runabout. 1980 Glastron SSV-177 on a S/A Dorsey Trailer. It's got a wakeboard pylon and bimini. Just a grand or two and it's yours.

i went through this same decision when i bought my bimini. i went with black, and i'm very happy with it. a few buds have white or light ones, and i prefer the darker shade & less needed cleaning of the black. it matches my black tower, and i also think black appears a little smaller (less visually obtrusive) than a light color in the same size.

you're gonna have a sharp looking boat, bro.
