Bow Rail Issues

Recommended Posts

Have a 2000 Sunsetter Lxi that a buddy ripped a bowrail out on last year (pulled the welds out :-) ) Anyway we ordered new bow rails from the dealer and dropped off the boat to get them put on today. Just got a call from the dealer saying they dont fit and they have changed the bowrails slightly. Cant get the exact ones anymore (kind of find that hard to believe) So he gave me a couple options. 1) Put them on regular but they would have to drill holes and do fiberglass work to repair 3 holes @ $100 a hole. (uh not liking this option) 2) Reverse the bow rails (for some reason they fit backwards) so they are a little higher in front and there are some marks left on the fiberglass from the old bow rails. Anyone have this problem before? Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks.

I would see if you can get them re- welded or do a search on this forum, I believe someone cracked their hull and might not need the rails anymore.

Malibu made some nice custom rails for the owners house boat so I don't see why they can't bend a new set or slightly modify the set you have.

I'd call the factory just to be sure they can't help you out before I went with any other option

Are Bow rails required? I have been thinking of removing them.

No legal reqirement for bow rails. The Ride series does not have them.

Talked to the dealer today and said they called the factory in TN. No luck. I went ahead and had them put on backwards, doesnt look too bad I guess.
