Rochester carb rebuild

Recommended Posts

I'd like to look into rebuilding my carb on my 1991 Euro F3 Skier. After looking on skidim and a few other sites, it looked like the carb would be a holley, but after inspecting it, the carb is a Rochester. The engine is the 260HP 5.7L 350 Mercruiser. Where can I get a good rebuild kit? How hard is it to rebuild this carb?

The boat isnt running that bad, I'm just sure it wouldnt hurt to rebuild it. I've already did the electronic conversion kit from pertronix and have new wires and plugs.

Thanks for the help!!

Napa believe or not has some of the best quality Quadrajet (Rochester) carb kits availible. Read this as good components for your successful carb O/H. Beyond a good cleaning, gaskets, accel pump, needle and seats; I would seriously consider a replacing the float and a JB Weld job on the two soft plugs of the main body notorious for leaking fuel over time on a quadrajet ( Loss of fuel into the intake resulting in a constant overrich condition and poor economy along with lazy performance). Several quality books have been written on the Q-Jet throughout the years are probably available through your library. I have as part of out fleet a couple year newer Euro F-3 that I just love. Did the carb a couple of years ago for grins and after some very minor set up of throttle blades, accel pump and a demon tweak to the transition circuit, was pleasantly rewarded with a boat that ran better then when it was new. Allowed for a prop change for better holeshot. Very happy with my efforts for sure.

Everything above is true from my experience also on a Q-jet. The JB Weld part can be replaced by a little "foam" part called a well seal. It is a standard part from GM when I worked there. It also comes in most good rebuild kits.

Is yours a Q-Jet? Small primaries, large secondaries. I had a carb specialists do my carb when I rebuilt the engine. It runs so smooth at idle, I need to ask my son if it is running when we are launching. Good luck.
