Non-Skid Malibu Boats Trailer Decals

All:

The "Malibu Boats" top-of-fender non skid decals on my trailer were peeling off. I hear this is a common problem on some boat trailers. After 11 years, I guess I will not complain about their quality too much! :-)

Anyway, my trailer is an SMP. SMP still stocks the parts, and so I ordered a full set of non-skid for $39.00. Not too shabby.

To remove what's left, I am going to heat the decals up with a heat gun, then peel them off. Any recommendations on removing the left-over adhesive? Anyone used 3M adhesive remover? Is it safe for the paint?

Thanks,

-- Mike

Hey Mike.

I had something similar happen, I used the “citrus based Goof Off” and it worked just fine. The best thing is you can find it at HD or Lowes!

Goof Off works great. And it's usually available at any Home Depot/Lowes type store.

I found the 5 bar diamond plate at Coeur d'Alene Metals & had them cut two pieces to cover the fenders & match the diamond plate on the front & rear of the Extreme trailer I have. Matches perfectly & gives me a great, non-skid place to step on the fender without screwing up the paint. Cost was about $40 for both.

I just replace the pads on by Boatmate trailer with new pads. I also used the Goo off and it works great. Let it soak a few minutes and use a plastic puddy knife and it will come off.
