shower install & heater fix - questions

I am installing a heater craft shower and have alot of questions.

first, the details:

malibu, 06' Vride

Monsoon engine

factory heater

questions:

It appears that I have knock sensors on both sides of the engine block. Where is the best place to get hot water (from the motor)? It appears that I can tap into the line that feeds the starboard exhaust manifold (after the thermostat, before the exh. man.) . Is this the best place? Where does the factory get the hot water?

I have found the return from the (air) heater. I was thinking about removing this fitting and replacing it with the cold water feed for shower. I would then cut the raw water intake line, after the trans., before the impeller. and installing the same return fitting. Would this be the "low RPM fix" for this heater?

If anyone could post pictures of the factory setup on a monsoon vdrive, that would be GREAT.

the factory hot water source and best connection is located in the manifold on the drivers side

there should be a plug which you can remove and install the correct fitting can get you pics later

tapping into the return of the heater should work but would probably run to hot and leave you with no way to cool it down

cold water is easy tap into the raw intake ( cut the tube and install the supplied t fitting that came in the kit)

have recently installed this kit on my boat although I have the hammerhead

My shower runs pretty hot and low rpm and even off

update:

I ran the boat today in driveway, on a fake-a-lake.

I ended up finding a 1/2" npt plug just below the thermostat housing. I used this as the hot water port for the shower.

The shower works, hot and cold. The water pressure was kind of intermittent.

I tested the heater fix...

I moved the existing fitting to the intake side of the raw water pump.

while testing today, it appears as though moving the fitting did not help.

Did I not do this right?

is it just that I was using the fake-a-lake and the motor just did not have the waterflow that it will while on the water.

I still have questions...

maybe I will be able to run the boat on the water tomorrow.

Heater:

Did the boat get up to operating temp?

Is the Y fitting installed with branches against flow, base with flow?

Was there already water in your heater lines or did you clear them out for any reason?

I did get the motor to op. temp and had heat from the heater above 1200 RPM

no heat below that.

The fitting was installed so the return from the heater was going with/into the flow of the intake water.

(should this be reversed ?)

the boat was winterized before i started this project. If the was fluid in the lines it was antifreeze.

It sounds as though you have the fitting installed in the correct direction. That is, when the heater water hits the fitting it should continue in the same direction and join the flow. If it hits the fitting and has to do a U-turn, the fitting is backwards.

The reason I asked if there was already fluid in the heater core is this: I think when you first run the boat, the circulation needs to get 'primed.' Once it's going you should have better heat at idle than without the Y fitting (cold air at idle), and slightly better installed before the impeller than after. Regardless, you will not get the same warmth at lower RPM as you do at higher RPM.
