Silent Rider mufflers

I just picked up my boat last week and was looking over the features that were listed. What are the Silent Rider Mufflers? Is this the same as the STE(Silent Tip Exhaust) by Hydro Power?

I know the boat doesn't have the STE but if that is the same as the Silent Rider Mufflers then I need to talk to the dealer about adding it because it looks like I paid for it.

Thanks for the input.

Just to expand on what has already been said, the Silent Riders are standard on v-drive models, and are different than the STE option. The Silent Tip Exhaust has additional baffles in the stainless tips on the back of the boat, and when combined with the standard Silent Riders, results in a boat that is even quieter.

In '03, I had the choice of (IIRC), no mufflers, optional standard mufflers, or the even costlier and quieter Silent Riders. That was with the 310 carb-y. If I upgraded to the Monsoon, standard mufflers were included and the Silent Riders were optional. Is that the way it is today?

Yes, that's still the way it is on direct drive boats, however on v-drives the Silent Rider is the standard (and only) choice. It's a completely different system though due to the arrangement of the exhaust manifolds, so it's not really fair to draw a comparison between direct drive and v-drive muffler choices.

I am sure one of our more in the know friends can chime in, but I think as all the engines go to ultra low emissions (I think in 2009) that they will include the silent rider. I seriously could be wrong, my memory at my age and all, and I just dug it out of a little corner of my brain that SR goes with Catalyst. I am either exactly right on this, or drastically wrong. It's possible that Malibu will choose to package Silent Riders on all boats once the phase in of catalytic convertors is complete on the LCR, but the two are not co-dependent. Silent Riders have been standard on v-drive boats since '01 (I believe), most likely due to the packaging constraints that are required when flipping the engine around 180 degrees.

The basic premiss behind the Silent Rider mufflers is that the two exhaust manifolds are linked in some manor (through a 2 5/8 hose on direct drive boats, inside the housing of the muffler on v-drive boats). That connection combines out of phase sound waves from each bank of cylinders to cancel each other out.

I know they were standard on '00 v-drives.
