How to fix scratches

Late last year I purchased a used Malibu (I just love it Thumbup.gif ).

Now that I have removed the winter wrapping and started to wax the boat I am observing a number of scratches in the Gel Coat.

Does anyone have advise on how I could repair these? Some are in the deeply colored sections of the hull and have removed the color. Others are less deep and in less colored areas.

It all depends on how deep they are. If they are just surface and you can not feel them with your finger nail then you can buff them out with compound, then polish and wax. If they are deeper you may need to fill them and that is a whole different process. You may want to search the WEB? - http://www.boatus.com/boattech/casey/02.htm http://www.heli-chair.com/gel_coat_repair.html

For the scratches that are not very deep, try some Flitz. A buddy of mine had some scratches on his new X-45 and Flitz did wonders on them to our surprise.

Yeah, all depends on the severity. Scuffs that you can see but not really feel can most likely be rubbed out with a good compound or polish. If you can feel it, then you'll probably have to do some wet sanding and then rubbing compound and then polish. If it can grab your fingernail, then you'll probably have to get some filler to get it back smooth. Sometimes you can sand those out so the color is uniform, but you'll end up with a wavy surface.

You can definitely sand out stuff you can feel with your fingernail. The gel layer is pretty thick... if it is a gouge, then plan to fill it - but just a scratch you can sand out without any issues.
