Lost Tower Metcraft tower rack in river or highway

Has anyone had issues with the Metcraft swivel tower racks? Took the boat out for first time this season. Didn't notice I was missing a rack until we got home to put back in the garage. We had the base plate still attached but the rest of it was long gone.

Had one fly off the tower with boards attached last year in a lake. Moral of story, treat like a harley, check for loose screws Thumbup.gif

I almost lost one a few years back. The mount bolt was loose and the board rack bounced on the loose bolt for an hour drive home. When I got home, the rack was only held on by two threads. Needless to say, the threads in the rack mount plate were so torn up; I had to buy a new mount plate.

I make it a habit to do a security check of all the tower accessories every trip out.

I've found that the forks do come loose, but I don't travel w/ the racks. Just saves on the cleaning I'll need to do later.

Ya, you're missing the whole point of having the break aways. You pull them off and put in the boat while traveling - so no bug cleanup later.

Live and learn :)

I'd call Metcraft / dealer and explain what happened. I'd be upset if it wasn't replaced due to not proper installation.

I do the same!

Improper installation wasn't the problem. That rack should be replaced under warranty (along with the one on the other side).

I had Metcraft swing in racks and took them back one week after using them. They shook like a leaf, were impossible to keep tight, and went with NiceRacks instead and it was a world of difference. My dealer ( THE EDGE) was very cool about the whole thing- but this was May 2006, so maybe Metcraft fixed their quality issues between then and now.

They had a problem with the hinge pins not catching and locking when they first came out. I had to send one back under warranty.
