Wax on - Wax off

Star Brite with teflon.

I'm with D-GOOSE. Either Star Brite with teflon (PTEF) or 5StarShine with Teflon (PTFE). They have the same chemical in them: polytetrafluoroethylene

How should I clean my boat before waxing? I've dried it off after each outing, but of course I'd like to wash it down before applying the wax. What's the best way to apply the wax without killing yourself?

Prior to wax, I take a couple of different approaches depending on what needs to be done. First I wash & hand dry. Then if there are any repairs, I do those. Usually it's a spot job that requires some buffing with a heavy compound & sometimes I'll use a high speed drill with bonnet to make the process go faster. When using an aggressive compound you have to use a step down process, hitting the area repeatedly with less aggressive polishes. If I have to do that, then I figure on doing a good polish of the entire hull with the final polish that I use on those spot jobs, which takes some time even if I use a machine. After polish, I wax. If I don't have to polish, I'll usually wipe it down really good with straight vinegar to cut the remaining water spots down, then wax. I usually only do the entire polish job once (or at most twice) per year. It's a lot of work & takes most of a weekend to complete, but she looks brand new when I'm done.

Oh & if you use a machine to do your polishing, cover up the interior & tower, & don't do it around anything that you care about getting dirty. That crap flies everywhere & gets into everything.

I assume you are using the Premium Marine Polish with PTEF. I just purchased a couple of bottles today. Since this is a polish, do you was over it??? Or, is this all I need?

Star Brite with teflon.

count me in as another satisfied user of this product! We run in the ocean so we use it on everything...boat, tower, tower speakers, wedge, trailer etc. The teflon makes it hard for the salt to stick.
