response lxi 03-07

Can anyone tell me the difference between an 03 response lxi and an 07? Are they the same size? The 07 looks bigger but the specs are the same.

The Length and Beam are the same but the draft is 22" on the 2007 compared to the 16" draft of the 2003. The draft is the vertical distance from the waterline of the boat to the lowest part of the boat. ;)

Different hull too, the '07 sits on the Cut Diamond hull. The '07 sits substantially higher in/on the water (more freeboard) with a nose that is supposed to be less prone to the submarine effect that the earlier LXI was good at. Even though they are technically the same size, the '07 seems bigger to me. The '07 also has the new "frameless" windshield, people tend to feel strongly on that issue.

Is the draft on the earlier RLXi really just 16"? I don't think I've ever seen any boats with that little of a draft.

between that time, Malibu revised how they measured draft. It used to be from the bottom of the boat down. Now it's from the waterline down.

the '07 has:

A better rough water ride

A dryer bow

Sharper turning

Slightly taller freeboard

arguably a better slalom wake at longer rope lengths

Paddle wheel speedo was standard from 03 on, so not a difference.

As mentioned above, the physical draft of the boat did not change, but the numbers did.

Here is a quote from 2003:

HHHHhhhhhmmm, I guess if Malibu thinks that draft should be measured from under the boat then I guess they're numbers are accurate. . .I contend that if you set a 2003 RLX w/stock prop very gently in 20" of water you will NOT be clear of the bottom. Malibu may be leaving the door open for some stupid law suit here, which will make all of our future boats cost more.
