illusion tower

Recommended Posts

I've just picked up my 06 VLX.I pulled the pins and dropped the tower to slide it into my garage when I noticed a dime sized piece of powder coat flaked off the base of the tower. It looks like there is not enough clearance between the base and the tower. Has anyone had the same or knows how to adjust for more clearance?

Sounds to me like it clearanced itself. I'd touch up the spot that flaked off, and see if that does it.

Yea, some of it has flaked off around where the edges meet on my illusion tower too. You could try to touch it up i suppose, I've just made my self live with the way mine is.

If it is visable when the tower is up metcraft will warranty it. If its not visable you can try to warranty but i wouldnt worry about it the tower is made from aluminum. which means no chance of rust.

What I have found with my illusion tower is that where the upper part meets the base, it is beginning to show signs of flaking also. It hasn't yet but I can see the chip starting. My theory is that the bushing that holds the front bolt is deteriating and the hole has been enlarged causing the tower to sit lower onto the base and rubbing on it. There should be a even reveal from front to back where the tower meets the base. I have noticed on mine that it has a larger gap in the back and the front is almost touching. My three year warranty will be up next March so I guess its about time to push the issue on the tower and find out what can be done about it
