Ski Pylon Loose

Recommended Posts

The ski pylon on my Sunsetter is loose. It only wiggles a little bit but I have some concerns.

Is this normal or something to tighten? If tighten is the answer, then how is the next question. I took the plexiglass plate off in front of the motor to acess the base of the pylon but didn't see where/how to tighten.

Advice from the BU boys and girls please.

Mine was loose too. I tried to tighten it but shimming around the floor board appears the only way. Of course, my way was to pull it out altogether...

If you look closely with a flashlight, there's a bolt going through the fiberglass surround sleeve that's molded to the floor. If you remove that bolt, the pylon should come out.

I would first try to tighten the bolt. Make sure it's got a couple of nice stainless steel LARGE washers on both sides.

If that does not work, you might be able to wrap it with some plastic tape (wide like 2 inch that will not rot like duct tape will) and put it back in the sleeve and tighten the bolt down.

Let us know how you make out. My pylon wiggles just a bit from side to side, too (maybe 1/16th of an inch) and I'd love to know if there is way to tighten it up so it's nice and solid feeling...

Skylon Pylon question.

Digging up a super old thread to ask about Skylons.

My pylon wiggles a little. About 1/16 either direction. I attribute this to the Skylon. I keep its cable cranked pretty tight, but more damaging (I think), I don't have the Skylon over my stock pylon all the way to the floor. I have the barefoot boom bracket 18" up from the floor on the stock pylon, and the Skylon sits on top of the barefoot bracket.

Anyone else have any experience setting up a DD with the boom, the skylon and the ski-height tow-eye all at the same time?

And any opinions if I'm in for a really sloppy pylon in the near future?

Did you fix the pylon? has anyone else fixed this problem?

Generally speaking, it's OK for a pylon to have a little movement. I've been in pro slalom skiers' boats and they REALLY move! So, after seeing that, I'm not as paranoid but do think if it's possible to tighten down, its best to do so.
