Help me find ID and /or find these parts

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I started the process of getting my 'Bu ready for the season. I was chasing down a couple funky issue with my gauges and I was looking for some help.

My running lights don't work properly and I suspect it's the switch. When I turn the switch to the left just the rear light comes on and when I turn it to the right, just the bow light comes on. When I first got the boat, turn the switch to the right made both the rear and bow lights come on. Since both light work, just not at the same time, I suspect it's the switch. My question is, where can I find a replacement? If there are any replacements for a 1998. I've included a picture for reference. The suspect switch is the far right one.

My next issue is with the clock adjustment button. I accidently snapped one of the connector of the back of the button when I was trying to clean the contacts. Is it possible to get one of these buttons? See pic below. The button in question is the black circle above the clock.

Lastly, is this my fuel filter on top of my fuel tank? If so, is there a part number? So, I can look for a replacement. It looks like a generic part in Pep Boys. Can I just buy one of those?

thanks guys!

Have you removed and cleaned the contacts on the back of the switch? Or can the switch itself be disassembled and cleaned up?

Yes, that is the fuel filter. Click the following for info on fuel filters: from MDude

The switches are going to be tough to find. Malibu may have some NOS that they kept on hand, but it's doubtful. I was able to find one a few years ago at one of the larger Malibu dealers in the country.

I would start your search by giving Malibu a call, 209-383-7469.

Before you hunt down the switch, swap the wires around with the interior lights 3 way switch and see if it works then....that way you know for sure it's the switch.

That's why they pay me the big bucks....

And #3, yes that is your fuel filter, a 98 may have a different sized barb than the newer ones. It is a NAPA part, just depends on a 3/8" or 1/2" barb. Someone may know for sure. But you could always bring the part to NAPA and have them match it up.

The problem you are describing very often turns out to be a ground problem. It could be at the switch or the lights.also the ground bar under the dash. use an ohm meter to check the switch.

Good luck sometimes grounding problems can be one or more ground.

As chose as I can tell, the switches are available from Sierra Marine:

An online retailer with these switches

Thanks for the links. I'll test the switch (and ground) when I get home and decide if I need a new switch.

Now, does anyone have a clue on the clock adjustment button? I may just end up soldering the wire to it....
