Save that trailer prop gaurd

Before adding a "wheel kit" to my trailer, I was always dragging the trailer prop gaurd on the ground when entering my driveway, low or high angled areas entering boat ramps, gas stations, etc. Cry.gif I have attached a photo of the new addition.

I have a Dorsey tandem axle trailer for my 23' XTi that always dragged the prop gaurd whenever backing into my driveway. The prop gaurd was slowing disappearing. I got online and found that Dorsey made a trailer prop gaurd wheel kit to prevent this from happening. It is a great addition and I would suggest it to anyone. Cost of the wheel kit was $125. I'm sure other trailer manufactures have this option as well. I simply grinded the area for the wheel addition on each side, welded the wheel frames in place and painted the repair area. Dorsey also sent me some new pin stripping so that everything looked as though it came from the factory.

Has anyone else used these? If not do you drag you prop gaurd often? Also check out the new stainless steel transom tie downs that I added as well. I bought these at Gander Mountain ($60 I think) ...note that the bolts that come with these are not long enough and I had to buy some longer SS ones at my local Lowes. They are self retracting/storing and ratchet down the web strap tight. Never have to hunt in the car for the tie downs again! Thumbup.gif

Oops.gif My bad! Wasn't really worried about the storage unit's ground....only my Bu....I did carefully protect her underbelly!

I did the same thing oldfooter. I wish the dealer would have given us the option to add the "wheel kit", it made a big difference. The only thing I would suggest is using waterproof grease on the needle bearings at least once a year. From what the dealer told me most of the trailers they get that have had the wheels added are frozen because of lack of maintenance.

I have a Ryan trailer for my VLX, and the wheels were an option. I did order them, but have yet to have been in a situation where I needed them.

On my Skier, the prop guard bottoms out quite a bit. Since getting the VLX though, the Ski pretty much just stays on the lift.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that and they did not come with any instructions or maintenance manual. I'll for sure be greasing them on a regular basis.
