Perfect weight distribution for an older VLX?

Hey everyone...I know I need to add weight to the bow of my boat, but not sure how much. Has anyone found the perfect front/back weight ratio for a pre-05 VLX without a wedge?

I know the VLX loves weight up front, but I don't know how much to start with. Figured others have gone through this process, so thought I would use their experience and knowledge. Biggrin.gif

Thanks!

I haven't done the ratio because I never can figure out what the belly sack should be counted as-

500 in each rear locker

400 in mid-ski locker

440 in walkway

150 of lead in nose.

Wake is VERY respectable. 1998 VLX...........

That's just plain ridiculous in weight!!! Are you a pro that you need that much wake to do tantrums, mobe's, 1080's etc?

When not using the wedge, most Malibu's will need between 40% to 45% of the weight forward of center (depending on the steepness you're looking for).

I have a 2000 vlx and this is my setup:

450's in each trunk

150 lead under each rear back seat

locker sack (its the fly high seat bottom sack) say 350lbs?

600 sack in the nose fills to about 450ish probably

Total weight = 1850ish not including passengers

Tow speed around 24.5 mph at 80-85ft back

With 4 or more people it's pretty decent in size

If the conditions are right I will also stick a 600lb sack in the foot area.

Thank for the replies. I'm running 400 lbs in each rear locker, and about 350 in the ski locker. Looks like I need about another 300 lbs up front.

Juice, I mentioned this in another thread, but IMHO with the vlx, weighting in the bow and midship is what gives the wake "meat". You make make that wake big, but if it isnt thick youll punch right through it. Depending on your location and crew size, lead is a great alternative if your not trailering too far. I am debating tossing another 500lbs of lead in mine.

Ha! I don't run it all the time. (Just most of the time.) It makes riding easier on your body because you can go big and still ride wake to wake.

What is interesting(albeit not really relevant to this post) is we also run the same basic wieght configuration in an '05 X-2. The wakes are very similiar, but mine cleans up at 22.5 and the X-2 doesn't clean up until 24 both at 70'+ and GPS verified............
