Gel coat stain

Recommended Posts

1999 Sunsetter LXI with the white hull. Clap.gif When the boat sits in the water over the weekend the water line stain will not come out. :( I can use Tonys magic cleaner and get it out, but it comes back the next time in the water. I called Malibu and they said to use 3M wax. I did this and it still came back. Is there a sealer for gel coat or something that will keep the stain out. I an sure with the knowledge of the site an answer can be found. Tonys cleaner has been a great find.

Than you.

I don't think there is a good way to prevent stains dependant on the water. Just use a good wax and clean it when you get the boat out and then reapply wax. My boat gets some gross staining just being in the Willamette here for a day. I've had it in the water for the past 6 weeks, so I'm sure it is really bad, but I am also confident that it will all come off with Tony's Topical Toilet TonicTM. It has in the past.

Here is one option that will make the hull nice and brite, but it is dangerous to do if your not very carefull. Dilute you some Muratic Acid and water. About 1/3 acid and 2/3 water. Wet your trailer down first. Then using a squirt bottle and a good pair of gloves squirt it along the bottom of the hull where it is stained. Leave for about 60 seconds and rinse off. Do not get it on on any decals.

This stuff will etch your driveway!!! So be carefull where it goes. I have done my last two boats

on numerous occations. Matter a fact I just did the BU about a month ago.

I used to buy it already mixed. It was called Zing for a while then they changed it to Zapp hull cleaner.

Only sure fire way to keep the water stain off your boat is to keep it out of the water. That said, mine sits in the lake all summer and looks very disgusting when I take it out. However, I am always amazed when I hit it with the aggressive boat hull cleaners -- just falls right off and looks like new.

I know that Tonys Topical cleaner will get the stain out. I need a way to keep the stain from getting into the gel coat. The wax that Mallibu said to use works some what. There has to be something that will seal the gel coat I hope. The stain only appears on the water line. With Tonys cleaner it comes right out. I hate to ride with a dirty boat. Any help is welcome!!!!!!!! Yahoo.gifThumbup.gif
