steering torque

Recommended Posts

When I am running normal speed and let go of the wheel, it torques to the left hard...in other boats I've had there was a wheel I could tighten to provide more friction. I don't see it on my 99 Sportster..is this normal?

You sure it turns left? That seems odd - Mine goes right if I let go of the wheel.

This is normal, and you wouldn't want to tighten up on the wheel, becuase then it would be difficult to steer Dontknow.gif

Inboards tend to do this because of the rotation of the thrust from the prop. You'll get used to it Biggrin.gif

You can tune your rudder to neutral by grinding the trailing edge. However, all inboards are designed to have SOME torque on the steering linkage at all time to keep any slack out of the cable and keep the boat tracking straight in a slalom course (it all comes back to the skinny stick).
