hesitation on take off?

Recommended Posts

Dontknow.gif I have an 04 Response lxi with the 340 monsoon. Went to lake today. On take off, the boat will hesitate enough that you can't pull anyone up. It does this right at the first whether taking off hard or easing into it. After the hesitation it will take on off and run fine. There is not a problem on starting or idling. Any ideas on what the problem may be would be appreciated. Thanks

anthony here ive seen this before it could be a variation of problems check major items first this way if there not ok you havn't wasted time doing tuneing check compression and lifter preload as a pocketed inlet valves or valve can cause a loss of power on full thottle but on light thottle runs fine also check valve travel while your in there but this engine has a roller cam and shouldn't have any wear in this area valve pocketing will show up with lifter preload checks if checks out next check is ohms meter on each high tension leads as these break down under load while at same time checking plugs keep plugs in order and check colour which after a run and engine hot should be tan in middle black on the outside checking the plugs when checking the compression will help locate a fault to cylinder or to an electrical fault to that cylinder to check all this helps isolate major faults as to spend time and money on the fuel injection system to only find it was mechanical can hurt another cheap and major thing to check is fuel pressure and flow/volume eachfuel pump has it's standard manufacturers rating ie; bosch 250 kpa @ 2 litres 1/2 gallon per minute don't get to bothered with this as most modern fuel injection systems are pretty reliable and don't give trouble in saying this at least after these checks you can check the fuel injection with confidence that your engine has a clean bill of health

Wow! Is that ever hard to read.

We had a slight hesitation in ours the first year we had it, not as bad as what you describing. It only needed a new fuel filter. It may be worth a try it's easy and cheep to change.

Keep us posted.

Hey Baddog, your posts have become as useful and helpful as SacRiverRat's. Crazy.gif

Hey I resemble that remark.. On a more constructive note.. ive seen this before could b a problem check first tuneing check compression check lifter preload as a pocketed inlet valves or valve can cause a loss of power on full thottle but on light thottle runs fine also check valve travel while your in there but this engine has a roller cam and shouldn't have any wear in this area valve pocketing will show up with lifter preload checks if checks out next check under driver seat check for water in the ice chest check your passengers as they may be over the weight limit unless they are hot then they probably arent over the weight limit then send sacriverrat a check but be sure to check is ohms meter on each high tension leads as these break down under load while at same time checking plugs keep plugs in order and check colour which after a run and engine hot should be tan in middle black on the outside checking the plugs when checking the compression will help locate a fault to cylinder or to an electrical fault to that cylinder to check all this helps isolate major faults as to spend time and money on the fuel injection system to only it was sacriverrat at fault and it was not mechanical but major thing to check is fuel pressure and flow/volume eachfuel pump has it's standard manufacturers rating ie; bosch 250 kpa @ 2 litres unless youre in the us which you are then 1/2 gallon per minute don't get to bothered with this as most modern fuel injection systems are pretty reliable and don't give trouble in saying this at least after these checks you can check the fuel injection with confidence that your engine has a clean bill of health

Well thanks for the compliment, but I'm a bit confused: is that a good thing or not?

Not. And look at Michael harassing someone for an homonym spelling error.
Ummm  It was Baddog harrassing the newbie for the homonym spelling error. Please pay attention, meathead. Tease.gif

I meant to say, "for pointing out" the error. Unfortunately, during the time it took me to look up homonym, I forgot to type that part in. My mistake. Crazy.gif
