Does the new 20 ft VTX ski better than the 21 LSV. I see there are 2 diiferemt hulls for the VTX, is one better for skiing?

UJ

Yes. Cut Diamond.

You can get the Diamond hull on either model, but since the VTX is shorter and a bit lighter, it most likely has a slightly better wake.

Now I am sligthly confused. In 2002 I skied a 21 LSV with "reverse chimes" on the hull that gave it lift in the rear. I thought that hull is being used on todays LSV, but I am not sure. Is the cut Diamond hull the hull with the "reverse chimes" or is it a new hull?

Not sure on the reverse chine issue, but the Diamond hull is designed for skiing as opposed to the V25 hull, which is designed more as a wake hull. The cut Diamond hull is used on the RLXi, and combined with a Vdrive (VTX or LSV) is proving to be a very nice crossover boat capable of a decent wake in both directions. Maybe someone else can get more specific on the design of the hulls.

"reverse chines" are a component of the "diamond" design, and are present on a cut diamond as well. Prior to this year, the best skiing Vdrive would have been a 1999-2004 sunscape lsv 21...after this year a vtx w/cut diamond hull is the best.

Don't forget the 01 Sunsetter VLX as one of the best skiing v-drives. That was the only year they made it with the Diamond hull.

Edit:typo

Thats not correct...although the name was no longer "sunsetter VLX", the sunscape LSV 21 ('02-'04) is the precise same wetted surface as the '01 sunsetter VLX

'01 was the first year for an SV23 diamond hull 21' vdrive. Prior to that they were on the SV23 wake hull & you had to get a 23' vdrive to get one on the diamond hull.

It went from the SV23 diamond to the V25 diamond. Different specs, different geometry - plus it's all around a bigger, heavier boat. As far as the VTX goes, that 20' boat on the new cut diamond hull is supposed to be the new king of the hill in terms of a slalom-worthy vdrive. Some here have even said that it's better than the old Sunsetter LXI.

The 21 LSV and 20 LSV both have the down turned chines. The biggest difference is in the entry angle. The 21 has a 25 degree entry whereas the 20 has a 23 degree entry. Other than that, the differences are mostly in strake size and location, and the size of the flat spot by the rudder.

The VTX and 20 LSV are the same dimensions. The main difference is if you get a VTX on the cut diamond hull you can get on board ballast tanks whereas on the LSV you can’t. The other issue the seating capacity of the VTX is 10 vs 11 for the LSV and 100 lbs heavier.

You're correct. I knew that, just had a brain malfunction Biggrin.gif ...see post 9.

For used boats, we're talking about the same hull/wetted surface with 2 names...

01 = 21 Sunsetter VLX

02-04 = 21 Sunscape LSV

And for new boats (Some have said these rival the 99-04 Sunsetter LXi DD)

07 + = 20 Wakesetter VTX w/ Cut Diamond Hull

= 20 Sunscape LSV

These are typically considered the best cross-over hulls out there. The competitors offer crossover boats, but the general consensus (here at least) is that the Malibu's do it better.

Edit: comment on the new boat hulls.
