Shaft removal

Recommended Posts

Anybody who has removed your drive shaft remember what size nut that holds the flange onto the shaft?

I don't have one big enough that will fit between the flanges.

Any suggestions.............

No not the packing nut. When I took out the four bolts holding the two flanges together it feels like there is a nut on the transmission end of the drive shaft.

Can anyone tell me how to get the flange coupling off the shaft. It seems o be stuck on. I have removed the 27mm bolt inside but there is no movement in the flange. There really isn't a whole lot of room to knock it off neither. Thanks.

With the 27mm nut removed, bolt the flange back on to the transmission. Attatch a slide hammer to the prop end of the shaft & hammer it till the shaft comes out. The shaft & flange are a tapered press fit.

Either that or bolt the couplings together with longer ~4in bolts and throw a long socket in between them (one that is smaller than the diameter of that end of the shaft). Tighten evenly and gradually until the socket presses out the shaft.
