    Buffing the boat

As it turns out, all the pads are same color and firmness, not like picture on Amazon ad. Also came with wool pad and a couple wax bonnets. The 3m stuff I bought seems like your McGuire's. Unfortunately we are back to 34F today, so buffing is going to wait for another day.

    Stiff stearing cable

Steering cables are a "wear & tear" need to be replaced item. If this cable is original (20 years old) it should be replaced as well as checking rudder as discussed above.

    Prop Shaft Coupler removal

The pictures aren’t showing up on my phone. You may want to repost in a different format. Mine requires a special socket that is machined down to get the nut off.

  6. Looks to be the same pump. I pulled it and spun it up to probably 100 rpm to see if I could replicate the knock and it wouldn’t reproduce the knock. It wasn’t under load by the belt and pulley so that might be the difference. I also pulled the belt and ran the engine a second to isolate the noise. Definitely the pump! There is about a 1/4” rotational play in the pulley until the impeller engages so that might be an indicator. There is no discernible run out on the bearing or end to end play either. I am heading down to the dealer this morning to see what they say. I did find a rebuild kit, I believe… so I will try that cheaper option first. The dealership years back said they wouldn’t mess with the rebuild kits it was too time consuming vs a new pump. Understandable from a warranty work perspective it’s a 10 minute job max to swap the pump, not so much from an out of pocket perspective. Thank you all for the help. I update this thread when I am finished.

    Stiff stearing cable

I like what everyone said. I did it in my 2003 about 3 years ago. There were a lot of zip ties that needed to be cut (like 6-8)
  8. A google search shows this as a 1505, it does have a different second number on the plate: https://marinepumpdirect.com/sherwood-pump-p1505-replaced-by-p1505-01-pump/ From Malibu Parts: https://www.malibuparts.com/products/impeller-malibu-m-series Does this one look like the one on your engine? Best I can tell, it uses the same impeller as the typical crank mounted F6-9B pump found on most engines from Indmar, PCM etc. The difference looks to be the way it mounts and what drives it. If it is your pump, they don't exactly give them away and if you add some dealer markup, ouch. Can you remove the pump and determine where the problem is? You could remove it, pull out the impeller and spin it to see if the bearings are faulty based on what your description seems to indicate. I can't imagine a set of bearings / seals would be very expensive. Good luck.

Wake restrictions bill introduced in Michigan

I love law makers! But a question, If I put my wedge on "full, semi automatic" mode, would this law apply if it passes?
  10. Good Morning everyone! I have a 2008 Malibu 23 LSV. I went to change the packing and somehow the nut won't thread back on. I went ahead and ordered a dripless. My problem is getting the coupler off. I know this has been in other threads but they are all old and different than mine. I don't have any set screws. I do however, have a weird locking collar. Does anyone have experience with this and advise on how to remove it? I am goin g to heat to it today and see if I can slide that collar off to get to the nut. I know how to lock the shaft to get enough pressure to back it out. If you look in the diameter photo to the coupler where a set screw should be I see nothing in there. So my deduction is that it is only the tooth collar in great holding the bolt on. Thank you in advance!!
  11. I hear you there. Don't miss that at all. My new dealer made a house call for me this week. Loving the new dealer experience here!

    20-23 LSV Must haves

Focus on the options you can’t add (or very hard/expensive) when shopping for boats. Like the flip down platform and wakeview seat. Those are probably the two hardest (beside motor). Speakers, lights, cleats, racks, etc can all be added or swapped for relatively the same price as if it were ordered with it and very easy add ons. Sometimes better options than factory. Id take a look at Tommy’s inventory. They’re making deals on any Malibu in stock as they lost their dealer agreement so territory isn’t an issue for them anymore. Should have plenty of 23 LSV’s, 2023-2024 available throughout the country. shipping can be anywhere from $1-2.50/m. You usually get what you pay for so be careful. Make sure you have insurance first and that the shipper is licensed and insured. UShip is a great option for this and commonly used.

Spend my Money! M235 vs 24MXZ

24mxz all day. The m235 might be one of the worst boats Malibu made. And the 2017-2019 24mxz one of the best. M235 resale is brutal and although loaded, it’s not much different. The 24mxz was redesigned for that year with the walk through, transom seats, and so many amazing improvements. One of the best and my favorite wakeboard and surf waves right out of the box. Plus a foot longer. Don’t get me wrong the m235 is still a slick boat, but just not worth it
  17. I am looking at a 2017 M235 and a 2017 24 MXZ, and I am unsure which boat to go with. They're both equally priced and roughly the same engine hours. I am trying to understand from those who have experienced both which they would own? Thanks!

    20-23 LSV Must haves

If it were me and within 8-10 hrs. I would drive to check it. had a friend decide he was going to drive from the Central Valley to Texas for an 24MXZ, and he was glad he did. I think he was 22 hrs 1 way. He almost left and drove home. Let’s just say it was not as described. The dealer ended up sending him to dinner and working on the boat all night and making it right. I think it’s been 3 yrs and the brown texas mud is still noticeable on the Bimini 😳😳

How to clean ski course buoys

Thank goodness for a post from a buoy turner. Replace them suckers. Ha, they are probably hard too from sun beating. New ones are softer to hit, especially when they are warm.

How to clean ski course buoys

Get new ones at some point. They also make spray paint that works on rubber. Our guys do that and it works for a while but at some point you just got to crack open the wallet.
  22. There is a company that makes Malibu specific brackets. I can't find the link now, but if I do I will post. Friend purchased some and used plywood and seadeck for his tantrum. Worked well.

  25. Hey All, Getting to that time to clean up the course - all my buoys starting, driving and turning are all black from sitting on the water and ideas on cleaning them? I tried bleach and a couple other products and nothing works - am I stuck with dirty balls?
  26. Great Lakes Skipper may have one, a shot in the dark. It is also a fairly easy DIY project if you come up empty. Good luck.

    21 LX All Around Performance

I had the first year they did the LX, 19 maybe? I liked it. I appreciated its honesty. Hard to call it an axis cross, but it kind of was. A little smaller feeling but which was fine for us.
