The OP might be talking about the notorious Computron failing.  Which it will, but really it doesn't affect anything.  Not all Echelons came equipped with the Computron but if it did, it's really just a display to help the driver monitor speed and display water temp, air temp, rpm, engine hours, etc.  If it fails, the display will not work but everything else on the boat will work fine (guages, engine, blower, everything).  For example, my Computron is erratic so this year I am unplugging mine and replacing my dash with new guages as an update.  So if this is the computer that you are referring to, the answer to the question is if it fails it will have zero impact on the operation of the boat.  What to look for, is the display on the dash and whether it works, I'm guessing the depth function is gone and you may not be able to toggle thru the other functions consistently (that's what mine was doing).

    • I have used Glidecoat before on a buddy's center console that worked pretty well for an somewhat inexpensive option. I have used System X on another buddy's 40 footer that seemed to work really well for a more "professional" product. On my Malibu, we went with a wax free 3M machine polish to prep because I didn't have any oxidation or blemishes then I went with Technicians Choice 584 (Tech 584) in place of wax. That came highly recommended from our Tommy's dealer and then also from the car chemical place here in town. That has Graphene in it and puts a shine on black hull of my boat like I really haven't seen before to be honest. That product is the successor to the original Tech582 which was a ceramic detail spray but does not have Graphene in it. On amazon the Tech 582 has a 4.8 rating with 2,251 ratings, you would have to think it cant be terrible!

Basically the 584 that we used is a spray ceramic that they say will last 1-3 months or so depending on care and use obviously. But it will be perfect for us. We trailer everywhere and the boat gets wiped off each time out of the water. Then Saturday and Sunday, I like to detail and shine so I will now use the Tech 584 to wipe down and hand buff with a microfiber quick while they say I will be just be building up the ceramic each time. Seems like just what I am looking for with crazy shinny results and supposed to be great protection, while also decently cost effective($40-$50 a gallon). Sounds like a win win but time will tell lol.

I'm curious if anyone else has experience with these 2 products.

Looks very cool. Did the bellhousing mate up directly to the tranny ? Used a custom ECM? Analog gauge?

spacer.pngI purchased this ole girl back last fall with a blown SBC and the intention was to replace with a used motor and flip it. Months later I found a Mercruiser Vortech complete engine that was running. I sent my father to pick it up and the guy fired it up hanging from a cherry picker. Got it home and I mounted the tranny then was going to replace the intake and saw some glittery material in the valley tray between the lifters. So I flipped it over and pulled the pan to find a destroyed crank on two journals. At that moment I was beyond frustrated, I own a Corvette salvage yard and we have installed LS engines in everything you can imagine. I always wanted to drop one in my 88 Skier but it cost so much I never did it. Well after this used motor I wasn’t about to buy another one used. New rebuilt vs the money to LS swap was really close considering I had 5 LS1’s sitting on the shelf.  I had started to really like this boat and had so many hours in it after finding soft spots in the floor and bad spots in the stringers. I ripped all of that out and went back all new. The interior/seats had been done previously with no wood and nice vinyl. I decided to do the swap and here are some pictures just after sitting the engine back in for the last time. I have several small things to finish up so it is not finished. I am replacing the electric water pump due to not having room for the filters to protect it. I will be done wiring in a few days and will breath some life into this old girl.

That's a beauty!  what are the torque and HP specs?

    • Speaking of Ceramic.  Any suggestions on a ceramic product to use?
