For a ski show an outboard works well as it offers easier maintenance & lower operating costs.  Show ski events don’t require the straight line stability for course work an inboard excels at and do offer the fun nimble bat turns that make a ski show spectacle.  So yes, for the hard core slalom skier an outboard has several drawbacks including platform access & ski rope interference as a couple.

Back in 1997 I traveled to Melbourne (from Perth, Western Australia) for the Australian F1 GP. On at the same time was the Moomba Masters, a world class 3 event tournament, I remember that the tow boats were outboards powered by Suzuki outboards although I don't remember what make the hulls were. I've often thought that for skiers outboards offer some advantages such as more internal space and smaller wake. The modern fuel injected 4 stroke outboards are certainly less fuel hungry that the older 2 strokes which makes them more attractive. I've seen platforms that attach somehow to the motor and tilt with the motor, and steel loops that prevent the rope from fouling on the motor. Although you'll never beat the sound of a V8 at full noise!!

      Awesome, well done 👏

Thanks, pretty chuffed as its been so long with covid lockdowns and floods keeping us out of the river was beginning to think I'd see 70yo (the new 50) before we got back into the water!! It's great that people such as yourself in this forum are so helpful, every little tip helps. To get back on the Senate was just marvelous, something only a skier would understand.

    • Where are the fittings on your bag? Take the hose clamp off and turn the fitting 45°

From my experience, the engine diagnostic screen will not give you an accurate fuel pressure reading.  Diacom is the best way to check the fuel pressure, but a mechanical gauge with an inline quick connect adaptor tee could also be used.

Csleaver, I’m guessing you are a boat tech or a malibu tech. I have seen your name on several posts. Question on the heater install. Since I have installed it, when I get over about 4000 rpm’s the engine goes into limp

mode. (Yes I used the malibu wiring harness) Could be unrelated but there is an inactive code for low fuel pressure. Today I watched the engine diagnostic and the pressure started at 88psi and went down in the 60’s with full throttle. Is that low enough for limp mode? I might disconnect the heater and hoses and see what she does.
