Electronic Throttle Conversion from Morse Cable

Has anybody tried to convert from the Morse cable throttle to the fly by wire system?

It is obvious it would need the throttle position sensor but beyond that not sure if it can be done or has been done.

thanks for any insight

If you have a 2007 model boat , you already have throttle by wire. All Malibu/Indmar engines since 2006 have electronic throttle control.

Ah, Nope.

We definitely have a 2007 247 but it definitely has a Morse cable system. It is the Anniversary version

Our 2008 247 had the electronic throttle.

Do you think it can be done or is there a fundamental interface with the Medallion that will prevent us from trying it out? I can not imagine the MEFI5 would care.

If the setup is anything similar to the DBW setup GM uses in its vehicles, it's not going to happen. Computer controls the throttle, so you would be spending big bucks on the conversion.

just curious, what are the benefits of throttle by wire?

Sorry man Larry is right on this one, you know they went back to the morse system in 10' and its still throttle by wire. Malibu made that change in the 06' model year. They do look similar. Are you wanting to convert to the digital throttle your 08' had, and that came in 08-09' boats? The chrome ones.

I like the fly by wire because it is super easy to flick the throttle, but it is as we thought originally, big bucks to convert this over for very little benefit. OH Well wishful thinking. The mounting holes are completely different and would require that panel to be reupholstered as well. The don’t do it list is longer then the, cool list

Thanks

Quite a few. For both cars and boats:

- Elimination of the throttle cable. Saving weight and routing complexity. Far easier to run a wire - a wire that won't wear out eventually or require any sort of adjustment

- Eliminates the need for an IAC on the throttle body as the servo motor controling it does that function

- ECU controls the throttle, so is able to control it for conditions where you shouldn't be giving it tons of throttle, such as in a limp-mode situation.

In cars:

- Traction and stability controls are far easier, cheaper, less complicated, and more effectively implimented in a DBW system

- Able to impliment options to for valet mode much easier, set throttle limits when the motor hasn't warmed up enough, set it to if you apply the brake the throttle will fully shut down.

In Boats:

- Much easier to impliment a speed control system
