4.25 is really good for what I’ve been hearing on Boats. I’ve been hearing 4.9-5.5.

We just refinanced our house two months ago, you know to buy something smart with like a boat...jk, and we got 4%. When we closed at the end of February our mortgage banker said rates had gone up a point or so since we locked ours in. Good luck timing on our part. Our mortgage is through Chase.

Hopefully find out this week! Stomach ulcer is growing by the day waiting for it lol.

Dang! Don’t worry too much. Mine is arriving tomorrow afternoon, which is why we closed yesterday. We both know my unmentionable brand takes longer than Bu. They should be able to get it here pretty quick. You’ll still have plenty of time to use the wet suit. Although, I swear that was the longest 6 weeks of my life! Lol!!

When are we putting it in?!

Welllll, I had to get new shocks from Summit to handle the extra weight on the hoist. If the weather forecast holds for a week out, I’ll get those replaced and the dock in. The dealer said no issue leaving it there for a week or two. So very soon to answer your question. Definitely give you a shout when ready, since you’re crazy enough to get in the water😀

Sounds like a plan!

Liquid water?  That is amazing.  They are still driving trucks on my folks lake and we got 4" of snow and counting last night

The lake has actually been open for a few weeks. But it’s been so windy, rainy and cold we haven’t been able to get out. Our lake freezes and thaws quickly.

This spring sucks though.

You're nuts!  Although, my new dry suit is waiting for it's maiden voyage.  Are you getting some practice on draining the block?  I see a couple more mornings in the low 20s.

I'm in Greenville, SC for the next couple of days.  It was 82 when I picked up the rental car!  We'd kill for that in MI right now.

Badger,

Move south!  I live one state north of where you are now.....  Visiting the folks at BMW?

Lived half my life in states that border our northern neighbor....  the guy who sits next to me at work is from Montreal.  Even he smartened up...

Easter sunday it topped out at 36 in stl. MO. This has been the worst spring I can remember. Our forecaster guy says it isgoing to be highs around 50 till the15th. Sucks.

Super easy to drain the water in our engines. It takes me 15 minutes. I’ve always done it myself.

And lets ski when you get back. Only one way to make sure that dry suit works!

I was finally able to get out behind my new 2016 VTX for a slalom free ski. My first run was at 28' off at 34mph and I was pleasantly surprised with the wake. Actually the wake is non-existent but there is a bit of hit at the rooster-tail but as long as I was in the proper position (i.e. on edge), it hardly affected the ski. Then I shortened the rope to 32 off at 34mph and WOW it was as flat, if not flatter than my 2005 Response LXI at this length. I could not believe that the same boat we were surfing 10 minutes prior was providing a world class slalom wake. Of course I get what makes a competition ski boat so good is that the wake is solid at any rope length but if you intend to spend the majority of your time free skiing and love to surf, I can't image a better option than the VTX (2016 or newer).

That’s great news! What prop and transmission is in the 2016? Also did you ski off the back pylon or center pylon?

So I skied a 2017 today. I’m assuming you skied off the center pylon. The boat I skied doesn’t have that option so we skied off the back pylon. -28 was right in the middle of the rooster tail. -32 felt like a -22 off bump behind a direct drive and -35 was even better. Was it our TXi? No, but it was very good and more then capable for very aggressive open water skiing. I’m extremely happy right now and now 100% confident in our decision. There is still a bump but honestly it might be good because it forces you to be in a good skiing position, there isn’t much forgiveness.

It had the OJ 948 prop on it which is 15x14 and if we didn’t want to surf I’m sure you could prop down and have an even better wake. I tried to find the transmission info but I couldn’t find the plate quickly. We were on a limited time frame. Oh and I had a full tank of gas lol so skiing with 1/4 tank or so will help no question.

Interesting that -28 puts you in the rooster on that boat.  On our '01 VLX, skiing from the only tow point available (no center pylon), at 34 and 36 MPH, I'm in front of the rooster.  -22 is a bad place to be on our boat.  I'd expect the rooster to be further back on a wider wetted surface.  Interesting.

Trust me, you could throw back rolls at -28 from the rear pylon lol

Maybe it’s further forward because the boat is heavier? Either way, -32/35 from the rear pylon was quite good and honestly it felt like -28/-32 in terms of swing because of the rope being at the rear of the boat.

Interesting you mention a different swing feel. Technically the skier path and geometry is the same regardless of the pylon location in relation to the boat. Wonder if you're feeling less swing because the ZO isn't giving you the whip?

:dontknow:

My friend driving said the speed stayed very consistent but you are right, it doesn’t react quite the same. It also could have been my timing was off since the wake felt different. Or maybe the swing is still just different feeling because the skier pulls the boat around more from a back pylon? Maybe I’ll figure it out someday lol.

Im still just thrilled that I’ll be able to go crank out turns to stay in shape and still work on form in open water sets.

I'm anxious to see how you like skiing it back to back with a ZO DD in slalom mode. I find that behind PP or hand throttle I need to ride the handle a bit longer to generate the same width. On the flip side, I find staying connected off the second wake far easier without ZO yanking on me. Usually use B2.

I would bet your are feeling the effect of rope attachment distance to tracking fin distance as the tracking fins are the pivot point for side to side or the slight rotation as you side pull the boat.  Looks like you will be experimenting with nose ballast to move the rooster out of the way.  For some odd reason, I don't see you getting out the drill of saw to mod you new baby to move the rooster...
