M235 Reviews

Just ordered a 2018 m235 that will be delivered in March.   I find it odd that there is not much info on the board on the m235 aside from a thread about a “lemon”.  Any thoughts on why this is the case?  Is there another forum I should be checking out?  Thanks in advance.

There are several on here. Not too many discussions about them after they first came out. A lot of times you just hear the vocal ones that want to complain about an issue. Most times you just don’t hear people posting that they aren’t having issues or that they love the boat.

On a positive note, I used an M for a week this past summer and during a surf event. It’s a very BA boat. surf wave in amazing on both sides. No one wakeboarded but it got on plane no problem. Interior features are amazing too. I also got to demo one at the factory. I only had my berly volt board, which is ok but not best in any category. I didn’t have any problem spinning 3’s, nose/tail slides, and airs.

For me, it’s not the boat I would buy. But I’d never turn down a surf set or a chance to use one again!

I have a theory that some BU dealers are having such a good run with their higher volume models, like the 23LSV, 22VLX and MXZ lines, that they don't really push the M235 as much as their markets would bear. The Malibu lineup is so deep that smaller dealers can be a bit more selective on which models to push. Other dealers may be pushing them harder since Malibu seems happy with their M235 volume but around here we generally only see special order M235s, which means folks aren't getting to demo them. And boats will sell themselves during the demo.

Price and demographics shouldn't be an issue in this area since my dealer also sells a lot of G23s, and they're relatively comparable on pricing for the G23 and M235 here.

I agree with @NWBU it’s a geographical and demographic thing. The NorCal dealers didn’t move their 1st one for a while, it was ordered for the boat show and sat til the end of the season.

Smaller dealers have only been taking them on special orders.

As one salesman told me , “the buyer for that boat around here, walks in and says what’s the biggest boat you got? Cuts a check and drags it up to lake Tahoe when it arrives.”

Wow! That M depreciated more $$ in one year than the OTD price for my 2011 VTX. Crazy money these days to have fun on the water.

This goes back to @Stevo and @NWBU‘s point about this boat being a very regional boat. Our lakes are small and shallow. Most less then 500 acres and 15-25 feet deep with lots of sand bars and islands. Our lake is one of the biggest in the area and using the M we could only surf in maybe 15% of the lake. There are even areas that with the M or even the 24MXZ would loose its wakeboard wake because of the water depth. There is plenty of money around here and our dealer can’t even keep inventory of the 20-23ft models. Axis and Malibu. Yes I know they have some leftover inventory, but trust me they are selling boats like hot cakes. Hell they did 4 TXi’s last year. They’ve had a few custom orders for Ms too. This one was their 2016 boat show and demo so ya two years old and now they are ready to move it. So yes, it depreciated but it’s because this area just doesn’t demand the massive wake boats as much as other areas.

No explanation necessary. I realize that Malibu boats tend to do well holding value. I have had 4 of them. I am simply pointing out that 30% over 2 years on 160K is a big cash hit to the wallet for a couple years of fun on the water. Def past my capabilities. I am happy for the folks that can man up for these 200K beasts.
