24 MXZ or 23 LSV?

Hello All,

Haven't posted in forever and I really haven't been in the loop the last few years.  I have 2008 VLX that I bought new and I am considering an upgrade and I am looking for the following.

1. More room for people and gear

2. Bigger surf wake

3. Boat that can handle big water. We spend a lot of time on Lake Chelan in WA and it can get pretty a rough.  I routinely feel like I am getting my fillings rattled out in my VLX:)

Considering a late model (probably not new unless it is deal on a leftover 17) LSV or 24MXZ.  I haven't done a demo yet but would appreciate any insight the Crew can share.

Thanks,

Chappy

We just traded in a Tige RZX 3 & purchased the MXZ 24..  Awesome family boat!  Big seating area, Sweet Surf Wave and just flat setup to enjoy family boating time!  We spend most of our time on Lake Powell and it handles the rough water very good! Highly recommend it!

Is the MXZ good in chop vs. the traditional bows?   I mean, I bet it does pretty good, but I was in a 22MXZ and still seems like the front of the pickle forks sit lower than the traditional bows.   That may be a consideration in rougher waters.   Certainly the redesign of the MXZ this year probably helped due to the deeper hull.

Great question that is what I don't know.  The MXZ is bigger and heavier so it my thought is it would do better in choppy water.

It probably does since it got bigger in 2017, but I was in a 2017 22MXZ and felt it sat lower than my LSV in the front, when both were comparably sacked out.   That was just my "feel" though - they weren't out side by side and we weren't in rough chop to really give a good review on your initial question.  The MXZ was an awesome boat for riding for sure!

You may keep an eye out on Axis too - The 2018's are getting the power wedge (maybe even PW2).   For a lot, the lack of the power wedge was the major functional difference between Axis and Malibu and with that as an option in 2018, Axis may be something to consider if you don't need all the Malibu bling.  The A24 is rumored to get a major redesign for 2018. The A24 will be 24'6" and have a dry weight of 5200lbs has been posted up on the Axis forums.

Coming from a 2008 VLX you would find a major improvement in rough water handling even with the 22 VLX.  I was shocked at the improvement of my 2015 VLX over my 2013 vlx.  So, I would assume a 2017 LSV would be the same or better.

I dont have any experience in a 24MXZ, but i used to have a 2007 VLX and recently upgraded to a 2016 23LSV. We just got back from a week in Chelan and i will tell you that it is night and day difference in being able to handle the Chelan chop.

I dont know how many people you take out with you, but we had 6 adults and 6 kids on the boat all week and it actually felt a bit 'empty' compared to the same crew in our old VLX.
