If you've got teak, read this...

How many coats of Starbrite Teak Sealer did you apply at the beginning of the year? Is it slippery at all?

My neighbour put a sealer on his platform. It looks great, but its ridiculously slippery. My boat stays in the sun all summer. I use Amazon's Golden Teak Oil. It looks nice for a month, but then turns grey. I don't mind it because its not slippery at all.

I bought one of the swim platform covers off ebay last year. my platform is fiberglass but sees allot of sun so i wanted it covered. for $80 bucks this might save you guys some work each year.

I can't take all the credit, MartinArcher turned me on to this stuff.

Right on man. Those pics are cool. If you didn't tell me I would think it was my deck because that's exactly my routine every year. Once good resto and then a quick coat every year and it's like new again. Gotta love it.

I also use the teak sealer. My boat is garaged and I still have to apply it twice a year. Far better than oil, where I'd just leave an oil slick on the water and need to reapply every couple of weeks.

My complaints are that it doesn't last all year and is a bit more orange than I'd like.

I only use one coat, as it starts looking like you painted the teak instead of an oiled/sealed teak if you use multiple coats. My teak is not the least bit slippery.

I didn't. I sanded and then blew the majority of the dust off with air compressor, then wiped down with a wet rag to get the remaining. Let it dry then applied the teak sealer. I checked on it again this morning before I left for work and everything still looks great. Hopefully I didn't screw up by not using cleaner.

Honestly I'm not sure, I'm always amazed by how much crap comes out of teak when the proper cleaner is applied. Hopefully sealing whatever was left in there wont hurt anything. Either way, worst case you could re-do the process.

Post some pics, I could really use some fresh teak pic's to get me through this non-spring in VT.
