Is a Surfable Wake Possible from a Response?

Just refreshing this thread again to see what people are doing today since this thread is a little old...

We've been mucking around with homemade velcro'd surf gates and the power wedge, 4-5 people and no ballast. Lighter people (that's not me :) ) can surf ropeless OK, but ideally we'd like a little more 'push'.

Will experiment with some fat sacks next weekend....

Thoughts appreciated...

Put more weight up front.  The wedge pushes down the back, people help spread the load in the middle, but you need some bow weight (400lbs?) for a better push.  Try moving two people to the front.

Hmm... I will have a friend chime in and help you. I loaned him some bags for his response and yes you can... also what @Michigan boarder said...

My sunsetter lx I would put a 1100 behind engine 800 on each side of engine 1400 in nose... it had a manual wedge and was lowered.

@Webfooter.. how did you weight your boat and what was the result?

Yes, you can surf the Response. We have an 07' LXI with no wedge. We loaded it with an 800# bag (thanks again @kerpluxal) behind the engine and had 3 kids on the port side and 3 adults in the front including myself driving. The key is the weight distribution and I also built a homemade "suckgate" which is placed as far back as i could get it on the hull. Below is a video of the wave with one of the kids riding. We are still experimenting with ballast amount and distribution, along with location of the suckgate to get the best wave.
